Principal’s Welcome

Stanhope Secondary School is situated in the historic area of Stoneybatter in Dublin 7. The school is close to the Smithfield markets area to the east and the River Liffey to the south. Our back garden is the magnificent Phoenix Park to the west and north where we regularly enjoy activities such as walking and cross country running. The school has its own private grounds. These are accessed by an avenue off Manor Street. Many people refer to it as an oasis in the middle of the city!

We are now a co-educational school with girls and boys admitted now for 1st Year only. The school is governed by a Board of Management and our Trustees are the Religious Sisters of Charity (RSC). The school’s origins can be traced back to a Novitiate House for the Irish Sisters of Charity in 1815 founded by Mary Aikenhead. Mary Aikenhead reached out to all regardless of religion and today we continue to embrace with pride her philosophy of inclusion. We have an open admissions policy.

We strive to provide a warm and caring atmosphere in our school. There is a strong focus on the holistic development of our students and we aim to equip them with all the skills they need to progress in society and to become confident, responsible, independent young women.

As you browse through these pages, I hope that you will pick up a flavour of who we are and what we offer in Stanhope Secondary.  There’s always something going on here in Stanhope Secondary; whether it be concerts, sporting events etc.

To keep up to date with the goings on in the school, keep an eye on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages.

Feel free to contact us on info@stanhopesecondary.ie with any enrolment enquiries or other queries. If you are a past pupil, we’d love to see you again/hear from you. Drop us a line!
