Short story competition

In 2009 and 2010 St Joseph’s ran a short story competition. We left the theme open and set a limit of 1,000 words. We wanted to unearth whatever latent talent we could and attracted a good response. The girls wrote sincerely and with imagination, largely about their own experiences. It opened us as teachers to these experiences and gave the girls a chance to articulate their perceptions, observations and concerns. Prizes were presented at Awards Day and it is both encouraging and positively reinforcing for the girls to see their work being appreciated and rewarded publicly.
